Emma Volk of KM Global attended a week-long seminar on Democracy and Governance, which included simulations, guest speakers, and field trips. The experience was challenging, but also provided incredible opportunities for growth. “I wasn't super excited about the simulation at first,” said Volk. “It sounded hard and stressful. But as the week went on, I started taking more risks and getting out of my comfort zone. I started having fun and enjoying it.”

The seminar, held at Carroll University, was organized by Southeast Wisconsin-based Rotary International District 6270 to allow high school students from around the world to hear from speakers such as university presidents, business owners, nonprofit leaders, and authors. Students also worked in small groups to navigate challenges and worked through a diplomacy simulation to negotiate a peaceful resolution to a simulated crisis.
