Spotlight on the KM Perform by Month
2024-2025
December/January

It is winter in KM Perform. That means musicals, all school "build" workshops and more. Here is a roundup of all the arts in KM Perform from the last seminar series and current workshop
Local musician Ryan McIntyre joined KM Perform for a songwriting workshops that allowed the 26 enrolled students to earn English and music credit. The seminar concluded with original songs by each student in the class with personal critique and review from Ryan.
The Into the Woods Cast and Orchestra performed at the Auditorium Grand opening on January 21.
There was a music listening seminar in preparation for the Minnesota Music Listening Competition. In the seminar, students studied over 60 pieces from all of music history dating back to 1100 AD. Our students took 2nd place in the regional competition and qualified for the national competition.

The Arts
It was a busy fall for our seminar series 3 and 4. Here is a rundown of the arts in our seminars and workshops.
Students finished a very successful run of Into The Woods. Pit orchestra, set design, and of course cast rehearsals were all seminar or workshop options in preparation for our December Show

All
Beginning Series 3 just started our Applied Interdisciplinary Arts STEM themed seminars and workshops.
October
Our KM Perform Musical rehearsals for Into the Woods started as a daily seminar. Adding a class for a musical allows actors, orchestra musicians, and tech crew to earn credit and gain valuable experience while not adding another commitment to their already full schedule.
Almost a third of KM Perform students participated in seminars to help produce "Legends and Lore" at Old World Wisconsin. This partnership with the Wisconsin Historical Society site has KM Perform students researching and producing scenes and spending 3 consecutive weekends entertaining thousands of visitors.
KM Perform students joined the KMHAS campus Drama Club to prepare for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Speech & Dramatic Arts Association's (WISDAA) One Act Theatre Competition
KM Perform students had 2 full studio days in October dedicated to individual arts and academic work. Several students took part in a workshop to start a garage band!
KM Perform music students participated with the KM band on the soft opening of the renovated KM Auditorium. Along with new seats and a refreshed foyer, this $1.5 million renovation brings a state the art lighting and automated theatre fly system to our community. KM Perform students will have one of the most advanced performance and training facilities of any high school music and theatre program.
Bonus: Wellness is a big part of what we promote in KM Perform. Several students participated in a hiking seminar to participate in the Mammoth Challenge, a team challenge to hike 44 miles of Wisconsin's National Ice Age Trail in October.
